En este establecimiento se brinda atención especializada tanto a los animales residentes en el predio como a aquellos que llegan al centro de rescate de la Ciudad para recibir tratamientos complejos. Además, el hospital alberga un banco genético que conserva muestras de la fauna silvestre argentina, priorizando el cuidado de especies en peligro de extinción.
El Jefe de Gobierno expresó su satisfacción por el papel fundamental que desempeña el Hospital del Ecoparque como centro de investigación y cuidado de especies autóctonas en riesgo. Destacó la labor de recuperación de animales rescatados de todo el país, muchos de los cuales han sido víctimas del tráfico ilegal. Enfatizó la importancia de trabajar en un enfoque de adopción para los animales domésticos, rechazando la compra ilegal de especies. Además, subrayó la atención intensiva que reciben animales como el águila herida, cuyo tratamiento prolongado busca su rehabilitación y reproducción para proteger la especie. Acompañado por la Vicejefa de Gobierno, Clara Muzzio, realizó una visita al centro el pasado sábado.
Este hospital es reconocido a nivel federal por su destacada labor en la atención y rehabilitación de animales silvestres, así como por su contribución a la conservación de las especies nativas. Cuenta con un avanzado Laboratorio de Biotecnología Reproductiva y Banco de Recursos Genéticos, que alberga muestras de más de 115 especies de fauna silvestre gracias a modernos recursos tecnológicos, como termos con nitrógeno líquido y ultrafreezers. Este banco de recursos genéticos es el más importante de la región y tiene como objetivo establecer vínculos con organizaciones internacionales para impulsar la preservación de especies en peligro.
El equipo multidisciplinario especializado en el cuidado integral de estas especies dispone de consultorios, quirófanos, laboratorios e instalaciones de internación tanto externa como interna. La transformación del zoológico en Ecoparque ha permitido convertirlo en un refugio para especies en peligro, un cambio que genera gran emoción y demuestra el compromiso de informar, educar y concienciar sobre la importancia de la conservación. Asimismo, dentro del predio se encuentra el Centro de Cría de Especies Autóctonas, un proyecto pionero que ha logrado reproducir con éxito diversas especies en peligro de extinción, como guacamayos rojos, cardenales amarillos, caracoles de Apipé, ranas del Valcheta y cóndores andinos.
