La Legislatura Porteña por iniciativa de la diputada María Rosa Muiños del Bloque Peronista se le otorgo el reconocimiento de Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires al Cura Párroco Lorenzo de Vedia, conocido como “Padre Toto”, quien desempeña su labor religiosa desde hace muchos años en la parroquia Virgen de los Milagros de Caacupé, ubicada en la Villa 21-24 de Barracas de la Comuna 4.
El Padre Toto agradeció el reconocimiento y aprovecho la oportunidad ya consagrado “Ciudadano Ilustre para expresar “porque muchos son habitantes, pero no son ciudadanos”, aunque aclaró que “mejor sería ser ciudadano popular, por ser fiel al pueblo y parte de él. En la villa sellé mi pacto de vida definitivo y mi amor al pueblo” y agregó “Todavía nos falta lograr una verdadera integración urbana de las villas a la Ciudad. No queremos maquillaje ni urbanizaciones falsas. Ojalá que esta distinción sirva para visibilizar el drama de tantos jóvenes y la vida que se lleva en las villas de la Ciudad”, sostuvo el Padre Toto. Y aseguró que “con los curas villeros queremos acompañar a estos barrios obreros y devolver la dignidad a sus vecinos, al tiempo que proclamamos fortalecer una comunidad organizada”.
La Diputada Muiños impulsora de la declaración al cura destacó la labor del Padre Toto en cuanto a “la recuperación de adictos en los asentamientos, la lucha por concientizar sobre la no criminalización del adicto, la no discriminación a la pobreza, la integración en reemplazo de la marginalidad, y la superación de esas condiciones con salud, vivienda, educación y trabajo”.
