“Huaca” es una nueva escultura que se construyó en el Parque de la Memoria. Luego de siete años, el espacio público sumó esta nueva obra realizada por el artista colombiano Germán Botero, que ganó el Concurso Internacional de Esculturas Parque de la Memoria 1999. El trabajo fue realizado por la Vicejefatura de Gobierno, junto a la Subsecretaría de Derechos Humanos y Pluaralismo Cultural.
Es una escultura horizontal de 10,40 metros por 7,20 metros y una altura máxima de 55 cm. En las culturas andinas se denomina “Huaca” al lugar donde se realiza el intercambio simbólico entre la vida y la muerte
De la inauguración participaron el jefe de Gobierno de la Ciudad, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, el ministro de Cultura, Enrique Avogadro, el secretario de Desarrollo Ciudadano, Matías López y la Subsecretaria de Derechos Humanos y Pluralismo Cultural, Pamela Malewicz, entre otras autoridades.
La nueva pieza cuenta con varios planos horizontales que combinan los colores negro, blanco y terracota, el material predominante es mármol y cuenta con un circuito de circulación de agua que le aportará el elemento representativo de la vida. Cuando los visitantes la recorran podrán percibir el sonido de la correntada surcando la escultura.
La obra de arte hace referencia a la dislocación que provoca la ausencia de un rito funerario (característica de muchos de los detenidos-desaparecidos) y a la rotura que esta ausencia produce, no sólo de los lazos afectivos con nuestros seres queridos sino también en relación al cosmos. Así, funciona como un espacio ritual que connota nuestra relación con la tierra a la cual pertenecemos e incluye la presencia del agua como elemento de vida.
