Estudiantes de primero a cuarto grado de la Escuela N.° 17 D.E. 14 «María Elena Walsh» rindieron homenaje a la compositora y cantautora, en el Parque de la Estación. Participaron del acto representantes de la Fundación María Elena Walsh, entre ellas su vicepresidenta, Graciela García Romero, quien compartió algunos de los hitos más relevantes de la vida y obra de la autora. La Fundación donó ejemplares de Manuelita a dónde vas, uno de los últimos libros de narrativa infantil que escribió María Elena.
Ruth García vecina del Parque de la Estación, se refirió a la historia del lugar cuando funcionaba como estación de trenes que recorrían el país y también llegaban los productos que se destinaban al mercado del Abasto. El Parque de la Estación genera identidad al barrio, promoviendo la plantación de especies autóctonas que atraen mariposas así como también otros insectos y aves originarias.
A continuación, los chicos y las chicas realizaron una actividad que consistió en el armado de barcos de papel con deseos que se tirarán al mar de Kartonia, una instalación que se está realizando dentro del Parque confeccionada completamente de cartón, con un árbol que se llenará de barcos y hasta el propio personaje de la tortuga Manuelita.
Actualmente los/las estudiantes están grabando un archivo de audio (o pódcasts) para explicar el por qué de la elección de la escritora y cantautora de tantas reconocidas obras, como: Juguemos en el mundo (cancionero. 1969, Sudamericana), Novios de antaño (novela. 1990. Sudamericana) y Doña Disparate y Bambuco (2008. Alfaguara), por ejemplo.
La Escuela 17 DE 14 se fundó en 1922 en Palermo y desde 1939 funciona en su actual edificio sobre la calle General Enrique Martínez 1432, en el barrio de Colegiales.
