La Ciudad de Buenos Aires fue reconocida por la ONG internacional CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) por su estrategia de mitigación y adaptación ante el cambio climático.
Buenos Aires es la única ciudad de Latinoamérica que obtuvo la mayor puntuación (una A) y comparte su lugar en la lista con otras 42 ciudades entre las que se encuentran Barcelona, Boston, Reikiavik y Hong Kong.
Entre las acciones que Buenos Aires ha reportado se encuentra el inventario de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero, metas de mitigación, acciones de adaptación, los programas de eficiencia energética y el compromiso Carbono Neutral 2050, entre otras.
La Ciudad reporta ante CDP como parte de sus obligaciones por formar parte del Acuerdo de Alcaldes y del C40, dos organismos internacionales que trabajan para generar políticas públicas de mitigación y adaptación ante el cambio climático.
Cada año, más de 600 ciudades reportan sus datos climáticos a través de la plataforma de divulgación ambiental de CDP y, al hacerlo, demuestran de manera transparente cuáles han sido sus decisiones en relación con este problema mundial. Todos los datos divulgados públicamente están disponibles de forma gratuita en el Portal de datos abiertos de CDP.
Los informes a través de CDP permiten a las ciudades establecer objetivos, integrar acciones climáticas fuertes y abordar el riesgo para los ciudadanos, las empresas y la infraestructura.
Por primera vez, CDP está publicando su Lista de Ciudades A para mostrar el liderazgo climático y animar a más ciudades a acelerar su acción climática. En 2018, CDP ha calificado a las ciudades de la A a la D según su divulgación, por la eficacia con la que gestionan, miden y afrontan las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero y se adaptan a los riesgos climáticos.
A través de la notificación pública de sus datos climáticos, las ciudades en la Lista A de CDP proporcionan un plan para que las ciudades de todo el mundo reduzcan las emisiones y generen resiliencia climática. La última ciencia del IPCC nos muestra que el mundo no está en vías de limitar el calentamiento a 1.5 ° C, más allá de lo cual incluso medio grado aumentará el riesgo de sequía, inundaciones, calor extremo y pobreza para cientos de millones de personas.
