Uno de los asaltantes tenía un pedido de captura vigente por parte de un Tribunal Oral por una causa por robo a mano armada.

Momentos después, personal de la Brigada de la Comisaría Comunal 3 de la Policía de la Ciudad que recorría la jurisdicción en Matheu e Hipólito Yrigoyen, en Balvanera, divisó al utilitario en cuestión, que llevaba puesta una chapa patente que correspondía a un Volkswagen Gol Trend, por lo cual se le ordenó al conductor que se detenga.
Sin embargo, los delincuentes eludieron la orden e intentaron escapar, iniciándose una persecución por varias cuadras, algunas de ellas en contramano.
En el cruce de la avenida Jujuy con Venezuela, el asaltante que conducía perdió parcialmente el control e impactó la camioneta contra dos taxis estacionados, pero continuó con la fuga, hasta la intersección de Venezuela con Virrey Liniers, otra vez en Almagro, donde terminaron el raid al estrellar el vehículo contra un árbol.
Tras la detención a los ladrones, se les secuestró una réplica de revólver, relojes, dos celulares y las chapas de dominio originales de la Kangoo.
En consulta de los antecedentes penales, uno de los detenidos, de 33 años, posee un pedido de captura vigente a solicitud del Tribunal Oral en lo Criminal 24 por una causa de robo a mano armada.
El Juzgado Criminal y Correccional Número 57, a cargo de la doctora María Fabiana Galletti y ante la Secretaria Única del doctor Osvaldo Gonzalo Vázquez, dispuso la detención de los ladrones bajo los cargos de robo automotor agravado por el uso de arma, resistencia a la autoridad y daños, además del secuestro de todos los vehículos afectados.
Las actuaciones quedaron a cargo de la Comisaría Vecinal 5 B de la Policía de la Ciudad.
