A la hora de prevenir el sarampión, es necesario corroborar los carnets de vacunación de los niños y niñas y confirmar, de acuerdo a la edad, lo siguiente:
- De 12 meses a 4 años: deben acreditar UNA DOSIS de vacuna Triple Viral (sarampión-rubéola-paperas).
- Mayores de 5 años: deben acreditar DOS DOSIS de vacuna con doble o triple viral después del primer año de vida.
Los niños que viajen a zonas endémicas o con circulación del virus deberán recibir una dosis de vacuna triple viral a partir de los 6 meses de edad, dos semanas previas al viaje. Esta dosis debe repetirse al año y al ingreso escolar.
Las personas nacidas antes de 1965 no necesitan vacunarse porque son considerados inmunes. Todos los adultos nacidos después de 1965 deben acreditar DOS DOSIS de vacuna con Doble o Triple Viral.
Las embarazadas no deben vacunarse por tratarse de una vacuna a virus vivos.
