El intercambio de semillas entre los Jardines Botánicos del mundo ha sido y es una de las maneras de contar con colecciones científicas vivas de alto valor para la conservación. Así es como crecen, en Argentina, plantas de Nueva Zelanda; en Italia, plantas de Chile; en Estados Unidos, plantas de España.
El futuro depara tiempos difíciles a las especies vegetales, en buena parte, por la acción destructiva que los humanos llevamos adelante sobre el ambiente. Mantener colecciones de plantas en Jardines Botánicos es una herramienta para asegurar que estos “genes verdes” estarán disponibles –si los cuidamos adecuadamente- para regenerar áreas devastadas, para recuperar especies extintas en sus hábitats originales y para dar a las generaciones que nos sigan la posibilidad de ver un mundo en el que todos los seres vivos convivan en armonía.
Siempre en el marco de la iniciativa “Da Palermo a Palermo: semi di futuro” del Consulado General de Italia en Buenos Aires, los Jardines Botánicos de Palermo (Italia) y de Palermo en Buenos Aires (Jardín Botánico de la Ciudad “Carlos Thays”), cumplieron el intercambio de semillas para sus actividades de investigación y conservación.
Esta colaboración atraviesa, además, distintas actividades educativas y científicas, en vista del 11° Congreso Internacional de Educación en Jardines Botánicos que tendrá lugar del 13 al 18 de marzo de 2022 en Buenos Aires.
